GIG REVIEW -  Black Cat Bone

single release -  Coming For You

- Review by Kathryn

I was invited to attend an evening on Thursday,4 April , 2019. It was for the launch of Black Cat Bone’s new single, Coming For You.   Black Cat Bone are a rocky bluesy 4 piece band hailing from Edinburgh and consist of Ross Craig, Luis Del Castillo, Kai Wallace and Ewan Mckenna.  They state amongst their influences Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Tom Waites and you hear that in them.

The scene was set at The Poetry Club, part of the SWG3 venue in Glasgow, and it was a small, intimate room which worked really well for the type of gig it was.

They started us off with Lost, and Love My Baby from their 2015 and 2017 album and sessions to get us going then they introduced us to the new single (released that day) Coming For You.  It’s a great thumping, rocky track with millennium whoops to join in with and when you hear of tickets to shows you’ll be coming for them… They then slowed it down a little with John the Revelator from their 2015 album Growl, then they did Freak Machine.  They then did Move on which is a great blues riff and Morning Light, which is a great throwback raw blues.  Then we were treated to Wash Away, Punks and Pushers which is really catchy and sounds great and rocky.  Get Your Kicks certainly gave you a kick, lulling you at the start then letting rip. They then finished off with Bullet, which is a foot stomping great song and Hip Shake, which certainly got our Hips shaking.

The musicianship on stage was phenomenal and the electric harmonica playing was an aural treat, the gravelly vocals really suited the genre and it was a great night. If you haven’t discovered these guys yet, you should.
